The Ottertail County Historical Society offers a wide variety of educational outreach activities. A variety of special events are planned yearly. Annual programs include: the "Real Women" Creative Writing Competition, Museum Days, Rural School Christmas Pageant, and Brown Bag Local History Series.

Lake Country has excellent horseback riding stables that offer a variety of riding possibilities.

The Lake Country in Minnesota has been a vacation destination for over 100 years. In the early years it was the fishing and cool summer temperatures that attracted visitors.

Pine to Prairie Birding Trail

Pine forests, deciduous woodland, native tallgrass prairie, sand dunes (remnants of Glacial Lake Agassiz), calcareous fens, bogs, marshes, large and small lakes and rivers make up the transition zone that offers over 275 species of birds.

The trail is over 200 miles in length with 45 sites to view birds. These sites offer some of the most spectacular birding in the state.

Shady Oaks Riding Stable
