The Ottertail County Historical Society offers a wide variety of educational outreach activities. A variety of special events are planned yearly. Annual programs include: the "Real Women" Creative Writing Competition, Museum Days, Rural School Christmas Pageant, and Brown Bag Local History Series.

Western artist Charlie Russell said it best; "You can get in a car and see what man has made, but you have to get on a horse to see what God has made."

Pine forests, deciduous woodland, native tallgrass prairie, sand dunes (remnants of Glacial Lake Agassiz), calcareous fens, bogs, marshes, large and small lakes and rivers make up the transition zone that offers over 275 species of birds.

The trail is over 200 miles in length with 45 sites to view birds. These sites offer some of the most spectacular birding in the state.
